On Tuesday, US President Trump once again criticized Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell during an event celebrating his 100 days in office and vigorously promoted his economic policy and tariff system. At an event outside Detroit, Michigan, Trump mentioned, "Despite having someone not quite competent at the Fed, inflation has basically decreased, and interest rates have gone down."
Although earlier this month Trump stated he does not intend to fire Powell, despite complaining for days about the Fed's pace of rate cuts, he continued to voice criticism. Trump's discontent has heightened market speculation about Powell's future and increased investors' doubts about Trump's tariff plans. Trump stated, "You shouldn't criticize the Fed, you should let him do his job — but I know more about interest rates than he does."
Trump also called on Congress to pass his tax bill, which is an extension of the 2017 tax reform, adding exemptions for tips, social security, and overtime pay. He also mentioned that there may be critics within the Republican Party, and if they do not support the bill, they should be removed from office through voting.
During the event, Trump continued to strongly promote his achievements in expelling illegal immigrants and mocked Democratic political opponents. He also emphasized that his signature tariff policy has played a vital role in economic growth and the return of manufacturing to the United States. Trump stated, "They all want to come back to Michigan to make cars again. Do you know why? Because of our tax and tariff policies."
