The International Maritime Organization stated that deploying naval escorts in the Strait of Hormuz cannot fully ensure maritime safety, highlighting the ongoing impact of Middle Eastern conflicts on global energy transportation.
International Maritime Organization Secretary-General Domingos pointed out that military escorts "are not a long-term or sustainable solution." Currently, much of the strait is in a state of blockade, and this channel handles about 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas transportation.
Shipping disruptions have driven up energy prices and exacerbated inflationary pressures, forcing companies to adjust supply chains, including rerouting shipments and increasing logistics costs.
The International Maritime Organization will convene a special meeting to assess the impact of the conflict on shipping safety and crew protection.
